We are delighted to announce that we are supporting a relatively young charity (formed in 2003) dedicated to research into autism.
Occasionally we meet someone or do something that makes us stop and think. Recently I had the pleasure of meeting with a Professor in the Autism research field who did just that. I learned a little about living in one’s own world. I also learned about the breadth of the condition and the number of people that it affects and the ways in which they are affected. It can be mild in some respects where the person with an autistic spectrum disorder can live a relatively normal life, but in constant variances of confusion. On the other extreme end of the scale it can mean being emotionally locked with no understanding of happiness, sadness, joy and love that people feel.
So, this is why we are delighted to nominate Research Autism as our preferred charitable partner.
Research Autism’s Judi Newman tells us...
Research Autism is dedicated to improving the daily quality of life for the many thousands affected by autism in the UK and beyond.
Research Autism provide one of the biggest, most up-to-date, and most reliable websites in the world for information about interventions - treatments, therapies and services - used to help people with autistic spectrum disorders.
They are the only UK charity exclusively dedicated to research into interventions in autism. They commission, carry out and support high quality, independent research into new and existing health, education, social and other interventions. Their research priorities are influenced by what families and individuals affected by autism tell them are the most significant issues in their day-to-day life – and then they make sure that the findings are disseminated as widely as possible.
